A few years ago I bought a Yamaha Sr185 that had been sitting in a barn for something like 7 years. It took me a weekend and about $60 (for a new battery, some carb cleaner, spark plug, etc.) to get it running again.
Set yourself a limit on how much money you are willing to put into to get it running again. It may be very cheap and just require a little TLC or there may be major problems.
